Dedigate, a hosting provider based in Ghent, Belgium and Haarlem, the Netherlands have signed an agreement with Clavister on the delivery of firewall equipment. Dedigate, which runs the IT solutions for customers such as Samsonite, needed an advanced solution with powerful administrative utilities.

"Since we have to deal with hundreds of firewalls as a managed hosting provider, manageability can fairly quickly become a real nightmare. Most solutions today come with a central management console to maintain them, but this only covers the management of the firewall rules. We needed more," says Kurt Glazemakers, engineering director of Dedigate.

"A central management console brings almost no solution in case of security patches, OS patches, driver upgrades or hardware problems, which could make the firewall-management of a couple of hundred assets really difficult."

This is the main reason why Dedigate choose for Clavister as their firewall solution. Installing a new firewall only takes a few minutes. It is managed from one management console that takes care of archiving previous firewall rules, and makes an update of the software a piece of cake.

"Dedigate believes in a standard hardware platform solution, where we have one disaster recovery (spare) machine, per 10 assets. This platform can be used for web servers, caching devices, firewalls, etc. In case of a hardware failure, a firewall is replaced in just a couple of minutes, because of the rapid deployment of the Clavister firewalls and the use of spare equipment," says Kurt Glazemakers.

Besides the manageability, the technology used for the high availabi- lity service and the high throughput also makes Clavister an excellent choice for Dedigate’s high-end customers. Also, fail over in less then half of a second, bandwidth management and policy routing make the Clavister solution an excellent choice for Dedigate’s backbone infra- structure.
