Clavister, a Swedish developer of advanced IT security solutions, is extending its SSP security platform with a system developed by Clavister for intrusion detection and prevention.

The Clavister Security Services Platform (SSP) is a family of integrated security products that solve large portions of a company’s IT security problems. SSP is an extended UTM platform with integrated functions such as firewalling, VPN, intrusion protection, anti-virus, content filtering, traffic shaping and authentication. It requires minimal maintenance, has central administration and has exceptionally flexible configuration possibilities.

The family consists of four models that cover the entire range from protection of small local offices, to powerful clustered systems in the multi-gigabit class for network operators. The different services can be activated individually through software keys, with the platform then taking care of product updates automatically.

What is IDP?
The Intrusion Detection & Prevention System (IDP) is a protective shell against attacks at both the network and application levels. Clavister goes a step further than the competition in that they have written the code themselves for direct integration with Clavister CorePlus, the Clavister SSP operating system. This gives important performance advantages along with the hardware acceleration available in larger models.

Clavister’s IDP gives comprehensive protection against known and future threats. An important advantage is that there is protection against the exploitation of server security gaps even before installing server security updates from their respective manufacturers. Update panic is avoided and updating can be carried out when it’s convenient to do so.

New signatures are added continuously at the rate at which new threats and attack patterns become known, and they are downloaded automatically from the Clavister Service Provisioning Network, CSPN. The set of rules for IDP is so granular that it’s possible to define exactly which protocols, host computers and networks are to be protected.
