Clavister put a finger on security problems in the telecom industry [2007-06-15]Clavister AB, a leading provider of IP-based security and Unified Threat Management (UTM) solutions, has recently published a white paper entitled "Security in Next Generation Multimedia Networks".
The document, authored by Clavister CTO John Vestberg, is about the immense changes facing the telecom industry, in the transition from closed mobile networks to an open and extremely traffic intensive world where new multimedia services are being launched at an unprecedented pace.
The security challenge is about being able to handle cell phone traffic traversing across multiple networks, among them the highly vulnerable Internet. At the same time we have to deal with an ever increasing traffic volume, so it is imperative to choose security solutions that do not entail bottlenecks. Correctly applied though, the need for security can be used by operators to create entirely new revenue streams.
Clavister's white paper also analyses the FMC (Fixed-Mobile Convergence) trend with UMA (Unlicenced Mobile Access) as a concrete example.
